Support Christians in Sudan

Suffering Christians in Sudan rely on your devoted prayers, solidarity and support. Here is how you can help support the faithful there.

Any kind gift you are able to make will go to support these and similar projects in Sudan and around the world.

£5 – Make a Mass offering for a poor priest in Sudan

In war and peace, Sudan’s priests have steadfastly led the country’s faithful, bringing them comfort and support through the Sacraments.

With the political future of the country uncertain and more people than ever turning to Christ, the role of priests has never been more important.

They rely on your support to help them survive in a country rife with poverty and displacement. By making an offering of as little as £5 for a Mass, you can help provide a lifeline for a priest – and allow them to continue their vital ministry to suffering Christians in Sudan.

In this Year for Priests your Mass offering can make a real difference. The priest will remember your generosity by offering the holy sacrifice of the Mass for your intentions.

Aid to the Church in Need has already promised 8,750 Mass stipends to 131 priests in Sudan. Please make a Mass offering and help us to support even more priests.

£25 – Support a child at a Save the Saveable school

Save the Saveable schools are crucial to hopes for a brighter future for Christians in Sudan.

The schools, founded by Cardinal Gabriel Zubeir Wako of Khartoum in the 1980s, provide the only hope of quality education – complete with Christian catechesis. They provide a lifeline of hope for children desperate for a better life through education.

With rising costs, it is proving harder and harder for families to afford to send their children to the Save the Saveable schools. The number of pupils at the school is dropping because there is no money to pay their fees.

A gift of £25 would fulfil Aid to the Church in Need’s contribution to a year’s schooling for a child – and help more children dream of a life with ambitions and opportunities.

Please make a donation to help give a child the gift of hope.

£70 – Help build a church or chapel in Sudan

Sudanese bishops are finally managing to make slow progress in building new churches to replace the ones that were destroyed in two decades of civil war, and in the worst years of government persecution of the Church.

One of the most valuable contributions you have made was to help provide a new tarpaulin for the Green Cathedral in Yambio, south Sudan. Here, the faithful gather in the open among the trees to celebrate Mass. The tarpaulin helps provide some shelter from the harsh African sun.

You have also enabled bishops to build a chapel to Saint Josephine Bakhita, Sudan’s first saint and patron of the country, in Malakal, central Sudan – where some of the firecest battles of the civil war took place.

Would you like to make a gift of £70 to help rebuild the Faith in Sudan? 1,000 gifts like this will fulfil our promise to help build a new church for the Sudanese faithful.

£200 – Help provide a vehicle for a priest or Sister

Priests and Sisters in Sudan minister to Christian communities that are scattered across vast parishes covering rural areas and tough terrain. They often have to rely on old and worn-out vehicles to cover hundreds of miles at a time.

You can help these servants of God bring the Sacraments, succour and support to Christians who turn to them as leaders in times of uncertainty.

If 100 people gave a gift of £200 each, we could provide a new, reliable car to a parish or a community of Sisters, enabling them to reach their flocks more regularly.

Seminarians are the priests of Sudan’s future. By helping train native Sudanese priests, you are securing the Faith for future generations.

With parishes covering thousands of square miles and the number of faithful growing rapidly to more than 4 million, it is vital that there are enough priests to serve Christian communities.

No less important are the Sisters and catechists who play such a key role in teaching the Faith to a people long deprived of proper education and Christian learning.

You can help to spread God’s Word and to develop Sudan’s leaders of the future.

If you make a donation of £500, you will help support one year’s study for a seminarian, or train five catechists.
