Sisters

Aid to the Church in Need gives vital aid to help Sisters – whether they have dedicated themselves to a life of prayer in contemplative orders or have chosen to reflect the love of God through their active charity and work in the local Christian community.

Carrying out active charity and social work

Active Sisters play a vital role in nurturing the love of God and helping improve the lives of some of the poorest of  the poor. Often they are the sole source of education, health care and social work that a community has.

Around the world, Sisters are also working with drug addicts, HIV victims, street children and people suffering all the problems and despair caused by poverty and inequality.

Orders like Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity have a worldwide reputation for their work with the poor and the dying.

Praying for the spiritual needs of the people

The prayerful activity of Sisters in Contemplative Orders is no less important. The Sisters have devoted their lives to God and to praying for the spiritual needs of the world.

They seek intercessions for the poor and the persecuted – and for the benefactors on whose support and solidarity they rely.

Contemplative Orders in particular have few sources of income and rely almost entirely on charitable support.

How can I help a Sister bring God’s love to the faithful?

Please pray for Sisters around the world, who do so much to nurture the love and understanding of God through their work. You are assured of their prayers for your solidarity.

Aid to the Church in Need recognises that Sisters perform a rich and irreplaceable role in the communities they serve. Even a small donation can help towards training a novice, contribute to a Sister’s living costs or help train her for her charitable charism.

Doing God’s work in Togo – little by little

“Even without the means to build our health centre and our convent, we are now here in the villages of Kpalimé, and by being very economical we are already able to assure the pastoral and social activities, bringing a smile, a listening ear and hard work to the support of the poor.

“We have to begin everything from almost nothing – the training of the catechists, encouraging the parents and children to attend religious instruction, urging Christians to persevere in their Bible studies and Christian formation.

“Everything here goes gently, slowly. But we are not discouraged.

“In October we introduced the Child’s Bible, the catechism I believe and the posters to the village of Kpime Seva and immediately began working with them.”

– Sister Lucia Vidotti, Kpalimé, Togo
