The international headquarters are based in the town of Königstein, near Frankfurt in Germany. Approximately 70 staff are employed there in work related to our pastoral aid projects in some 130-plus countries around the world.
Aid to the Church in Need has national offices in 17 different countries in Europe, North and South America and Australia. These offices are responsible for fundraising and for providing information within their own regions.
Skills and Experience
Aid to the Church in Need is a pastoral charity that operates in the name of the Catholic Church, in accordance with papal Law and the directives of the Holy See. Hence the successful applicant will have a deep understanding of the Catholic Faith, with an appropriate level of Catholic theological formation.
Some knowledge and/or experience of the situation of the Catholic Church locally (both Latin-rite and Eastern-rite) in the countries administered by the Africa/Asia Desk would be an additional advantage.
A sound working knowledge of English, French and German is essential, as is an ability and willingness to evaluate projects “on the spot” on occasions.
You will have a capacity for teamwork and flexibility, as well as the ability to motivate and lead a small team of project staff.
An impeccable and courteous manner is expected, along with loyalty to superiors and colleagues alike.
Responsibilities
The successful applicant will work with projects in the pastoral field of the Church in Egypt, Ethiopia, Eritrea and the countries of the Middle East.
The work of the section includes above all the processing and evaluation of projects from the countries administered by the Africa/Asia Desk.
This includes monitoring and following up on projects, in accordance with the principles of Aid to the Church in Need and in close collaboration with the bishops and their staff in the local dioceses.
Terms and benefits
In return for this work in support of the pastoral mission of the Catholic Church in some of the most conflict-ridden regions of the world, Aid to the Church in Need is able to offer you a salary commensurate with this position in a charitable agency, plus social benefits and flexible working hours.
The position will be based in our international headquarters in Königstein, near Frankfurt, Germany.
As part of the role, some international travel is required.
