Pray for Zimbabwe

Carrying the Cross: Faithful in Zimbabwe remember the Passion of Our Lord during a Stations of the Cross procession. Photo: Zimbabwe Church"In our situation, it would be so easy to become insular, discouraged and dejected. But thanks to you, we feel we are not alone."

These were the words of one Church leader in Zimbabwe, where the people are turning to their faith amid economic misery, deepening oppression, drought and disease.

Please join us in praying for the people of Zimbabwe, who so desperately need our help, our solidarity and our love.

Prayer for the people of Zimbabwe

Heavenly Father,
We lift up the people of Zimbabwe to you.

We thank you for the passionately prayerful
and deeply faithful people of this great nation.
Pour out your Holy Spirit upon them
so that they may be strengthened in faith
and deepened in love during this time of trial and testing.

Come to the aid of those suffering persecution and oppression:
may they know in their hearts
that you have won the victory
and that the gates of hell will never prevail
against your Church.

We pray Lord for the farmers of Zimbabwe:
we ask you to bring forth an abundant harvest
and to bring an end to all droughts,
so that no mouth is without food.

Father, protect those priests and religious
who dedicate their lives selflessly to your service.
May they be sustained in faith, hope and love
that they may bring the Good News to the people of Zimbabwe –
especially the youth and those living in deepest poverty.

We pray especially for all seminarians in this country,
that you will raise up great leaders of the future to serve this nation.

Grant, Lord, a free and open press
so that the people of Zimbabwe no longer suffer in silence.
Stir the hearts of all world leaders
to stand against the oppression, persecution and injustice
inflicted upon your sons and daughters.

Father, we pray for a future filled with faith,
filled with hope and filled with love
for the people of Zimbabwe.
May they continue to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ,
your son, our Lord, saviour, brother and friend.

Amen
