Paulino Jukes: We can do so much

Paulino is a Save the Saveable teacher. He attended as a boy and now his eldest son Dominic is a pupil. His five-year-old son is now also a pupil.

"The Christian dimension to our work brings people together, helping us to live together in unity and love.

"I would like to thank the benefactors for what they have done for us. Even the little you give means we can give so much here. We are changing people’s lives for the better,” he says.

Emma: Daring to hope and dream

Like so many girls in Sudan, Emma’s only hope of education is Save the Saveable. “It is my only hope of fulfilling my dream to be a doctor,” she explains. “School is so important to me – without it I would have to stay at home.”  

John Pontifex, Aid to the Church in Need's Head of Press and Information, first visited the Save the Saveable schools in 2004. Most of the schools were made entirely from papyrus reeds and plastic sheeting.

But that didn't matter to the children – they saw this as a lifeline and a wonderful opportunity to learn as a Christian – a dream come true.

Monday: Aiming to be a high-flyer

Twelve-year-old Monday wants to be a pilot. “This place is better than one of the concrete schools,” he says proudly.

Why? “The standards of education are very high.”

Afterwards he confides that he also thinks about becoming a priest. He is clearly a high-flyer – and aiming for heaven!

Daniel: Keeping his faith alive

"There are many people who want to stop Christianity in this country but it will never die," says Daniel.

"I want to keep it going."

Now, more than ever, the schools are needed to help nurture educated and positive young people to become strong and faithful school and community leaders of the future. The children at the Save the Saveable schools and the people of Sudan need our prayers, our solidarity and our positive support. Together, we can make a difference!
