How Can My School Help?

It is easy for your school to get involved with Aid to the Church in Need. Whether you want your pupils to learn more about persecuted and suffering Christians, or you want to help support one of our projects,we can help.

Teaching aids

Why not ask your pupils to explore this website and see what inspiring stories or revealing stories of persecution they can find? Ask them to consider the religious freedom we take for granted in the UK and compare it to some of the stories of suffering that they come across on this website.

You can also help them explore the reality of life as a Christian living amid persecution or oppression with Aid to the Church in Need’s lesson plan. The lesson is aimed at Key Stage 4 level.

Please contact us to request the lesson plan.

Save the Saveable schools in Sudan 2010

Aid to the Church in Need is challenging pupils at schools in the UK to help provide a Christian education for 20,000 Sudanese children.

The Save the Saveable schools were started by Cardinal Gabriel Zubeir Wako of Khartoum to offer a rounded education, including Christian catechesis, for children who have grown up in displacement camps after decades of warfare in their homeland. Education is their only hope of changing their future prospects.

For just £25 a year, you can help provide a year’s education – and change a child’s life. Will your school take up the challenge?

Why not challenge yourselves to support one Sudanese child for every pupil in your class at school? Or set your target even higher!

Please contact us if you would like to know more about taking the challenge on behalf of children in Sudan.

Hold a Mufti Day

Mufti Days are a popular and easy way of raising money for Aid to the Church in Need. Why not pick a date during Advent or Lent and link the idea of solidarity with persecuted and suffering Christians into these important seasons in the Church year?

Please do try your own fundraising ideas, too!

Awards and Rewards

Why not commemorate your pupils’ First Holy Communion or Confirmation by giving them a devotional gift from Aid to the Church in Need – and helping support the suffering Church around the world at the same time.

Many of our devotional items are made by Christians in the Holy Land, who rely on sellingthe items for their livelihood.

Our devotional gifts are also suitable for rewarding academic achievement for pupils of all ages.

Please visit Aid to the Church in Need’s online shop to see our full range of gifts

Being a Christian: A Child’s Eye view

Michel – aged 16, Israel

Michel attends a non-Christian school. Anti-Christian slogans are daubed on the walls and he faces taunting and beatings from fellow students for wearing a crucifix. He is considered a hero by fellow catechists in his parish.

Joseph – aged 16, Sudan

“I don’t care how many times I get beaten. I insist on going to Church.”

Joseph’s State school does not give Christian children time off to attend Mass on Sunday. He has been beaten frequently for breaking the rules to go to Church.
