Spreading the Faith

For millions of Christians living in some of the most inaccessible parts of the world, the media plays a vital role in their faith.

Visits from a priest or Sister may be rare, and so instead the Word of God reaches them over the airwaves, on television, in print and on the internet.

These resources provide information about the Church and offer spritiual comfort and support to the faithful around the world.

Supporting media projects to spread the Word of God is a key priority for Aid to the Church in Need – at the specific request of Pope Benedict XVI.

Aid to the Church in Need has helped launch English and Arabic versions of the Catholic news agency Zenit, which is now firmly established as leading provider of Catholic news online.

We also provide on-going support for television and radio initiatives around the world, including the Lebanon-based stations SAT7 and Télé-Lumière, which serve the Middle East, Radio Veritas in Asia, the United Catholic Asian News (UCAN), Radio Voskresinnya, based in Ukraine, and the Russian news agency Blagovest Info.

Aid to the Church in Need provides a lot of support for popular media evangelisation projects in Brazil. And other smaller but no less important projects include Radio Bakhita in Sudan and a project in Haiti which supplies wind-up radios to Catholic listeners.

With your help, we also support a broad range of magazines, printed material and Catholic websites.

And the Catholic Radio and Television Network, which is funded by Aid to the Church in Need produces our Where God Weeps series – a window on the persecuted Church which is reguraly broadcast on the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN).

On Wednesday 16th April 2008, Pope Benedict XVI made an historic broadcast to the Russian people on state television. His message of love and the need for dialogue came at the end of a documentary commemorating his 81st birthday.
