Adoption Projects
Forge a link of solidarity with suffering Christians by adopting a project
Pledging your support to a particular Aid to the Church in Need is a great way to forge a link of solidarity with a Christian community in one of the 130-plus countries where we support the persecuted suffering Church.
With your gift or fundraising efforts, you will be helping other Christians to live out their faith more fully. And you can be assured of their prayers for you in return.
Individuals, parishes, schools or any other groups can adopt a project – just tell us about the type of project you would like to adopt.
How to adopt a project
Below are some of the things you should consider about your project. Once you have thought about them and got more ideas about the project you would like, please fill in the Adoption Project Enquiry Form at the bottom of this page, or call our Adoption Projects department on 020 8642 8668.
Help us to find a project for you
- Think realistically about how much you think you will be able to raise or donate
- Decide what type of project you would like to adopt – eg a seminary, a construction or transport project, a community project involving Sisters. You can get an idea of our projects from this website
- Consider what region of the world you might like to help
- Are you interested in a project run by a specific religious order?
- Work out your timescale for raising funds
- Do you want to be the sole funder or are you happy to make a contribution to a larger project?
- What acknowledgements would you like? Photos? Reports?
- If you are adopting a project in memory of a loved one, what other acknowledgements would you like?
Next steps
- Please complete our Adoption Project Enquiry Form at the bottom of this page, or call 020 8642 8668 to discuss your project
- We will then contact our project headquarters to find a small range of possible projects.
- Choose your project and let us know you want to go ahead
- If you decide not to adopt any of the projects we suggest, please let us know so that they can be offered to other people
- Our Adoption Project section will keep in touch to see how you are progressing and when you have achieved your target the total amount will be sent to our Projects Department for distribution
- Once funds have been distributed you will receive photos and a report in due course
Some things to be aware of
- Sorting out the details of Adoption Projects can be quite a lengthy process, so please plan well ahead
- The more general your criteria, the more options we can give you
- Due to language difficulties, remoteness or issues of personal safety, some projects may be unable to supply photos and/or reports. These projects may not be suitable for adoption
Building a Chapel in BurmaA youth group in a London parish raised £2,500 to build a chapel in Burma by organising a five-mile sponsored walk from Balham to Tyburn, near Hyde Park. The villagers’ temporary bamboo chapel was used daily but always needed repair because of the weather. Now they have a safe, weatherproof chapel for the sacraments, praying and learning about their faith. |
Helping a Christian book centre in PakistanOne supporter donated his £750 retirement collection to the Daughters of Saint Paul in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, to help train teachers, catechists and Sunday School volunteers. The Sisters provide spiritual support and help Christians to grow in faith and confidence in a country where they represent only one percent of the population. The Daughters of Saint Paul have also opened a Christian resource centre and Aid to the Church in Need has provided furniture, office equipment and the Catholic Catechism in Urdu and English. |
Supporting seminarians in UkraineA number of parishes and supporters have adopted the Uzhorod Seminary in Ukraine to improve facilities for the 145 seminarians who study for the priesthood there each year. The seminary relies on donations to cover the cost of maintaning the building and teaching the seminarians. These future priests remember all their benefactors in their prayers. |
