SCOTLAND: Benefactors set to remember Aid to the Church in Need's founder
By Terry Murphy

Aid to the Church in Need’s benefactors in Scotland are to give thanks for the life and works of the charity’s charismatic founder, Father Werenfried van Straaten, with a special memorial Mass later this month.
The Mass takes place at Saint Bride’s Church in Cambuslang, near Glasgow, at 7.30pm on Monday, 23rd November.
Father Paul Morton, the parish priest of Saint Bride’s, has invited Bishop John Cunningham of Galloway to be the chief celebrant at the annual Mass.
Father Werenfried founded Aid to the Church in Need in 1947, in direct response to the suffering of German refugees after the Second World War.
Since then, numerous Popes have asked Aid to the Church in Need to help in crisis-hit parts of the world, and the charity now supports persecuted and suffering Christians in more than 130 countries worldwide.

The service comes six weeks after Aid to the Church in Need officially opened a new Scottish office. The office was blessed by Bishop Joseph Coutts of Pakistan and Bishop Joseph Devine of Motherwell.
The new office is part of a plan to reach out to the charity’s loyal Scottish donors through events like the memorial Mass, and Aid to the Church in Need’s newly appointed Scottish Administrator, Dermot Lamb, said: “It is an opportunity to honour the memory of the founder of Aid to the Church in Need, as well as for supporters to get together.
“We will be delighted to welcome everyone to the event.”
