An internationally renowned Catholic singer will be staging a fundraising concert for Aid to the Church in Need at Scotland’s national shrine to Our Lady.

Marilla Ness will be giving a concert in support of Aid to the Church in Need at Carfin shrine, just outside Motherwell.

The concert – An Evening of Prayerful Music for the Persecuted Church – will be held at Saint Francis Xavier Church on Thursday, 29th April at 7.30pm.

The singer said that she was looking forward to the event – which will be her first performance in the country – “very much”.

She said: “It will be my first visit to Scotland to give a concert and also my first visit to the Carfin shrine.”

Aid to the Church in Need’s Scottish Administrator Dermot Lamb said: “We are delighted that Marilla will be singing in support of suffering Christians around the world, and hope our supporters will be able to join us for what will be a very special evening.”

He added that concert tickets had been selling steadily since going on sale on 19th February.

Marilla Ness said: “I have received a lot of support from my fans in Scotland over the years and it will be a pleasure to meet some of them.”

The singer described how pleased she was to be able to help Aid to the Church in Need.

She said: “When one reads about the sufferings of the persecuted Catholics around the world it brings home the enormity of their plight and anything that can be done to help them is both an honour and a privilege.”

Marilla Ness will be singing a selection of songs from her albums at the event in Carfin.

Over the last 17 years, Marilla Ness has recorded 23 Christian music albums. She received three awards at the United Catholic Music and Video Association ceremony in New Orleans, USA, in October 2009 – including the International Album of the Year award for “I Believe in You”.
