Burma's Date with Destiny

Author: John Pontifex
Document type: Reports

"Our date with destiny has arrived," says Archbishop Charles Bo of Rangoon, as the people of Burma dare to hope that freedom has at last arrived, after almost 50 years living under the strict control a brutal military junta.

And yet violence and religious hatred continue to wreak havoc, with great numbers driven from their homes to seek refuge from armed conflict in neighbouring Thailand. In other parts of the country, Christians belonging to ethnic minorities find themselves ruthlessly oppressed by armed forces determined to quash rebellions and independence movements.

Our report reveals some of the practical ways you are offering help, supporting projects such as Christian education programmes, Church building initiatives, innovative income generation projects and pastoral support for refugees.
