Offer a Mass for your intentions
What better way to offer the hope and love of Christ to a poor or suffering priest than to make a Mass offering for you, a loved one – or for your own parish priest?
Help a poor priest
Mass Offerings are an important source of subsistence for priests working in some of the poorest countries in the world – often amid persecution and oppression.
Your Mass Offering can help provide a priest with the basics of their ministry – food, clothes, transport and resources to help reach out to the sick and the needy.
A Mass Offering can help nurture the Faith too, helping priests to go on spiritual retreat or seminary professors to buy much-needed teaching materials.
Remembering your prayer intentions with a Mass
Requesting a Mass through Aid to the Church in Need is a special way of remembering a loved one, celebrating an anniversary, making an act of thanksgiving, offering your prayer intentions before God or simply sharing in the feasts and seasons of the Church year.
It also creates a special link of solidarity with poor and needy priests – and the millions of Catholics they serve.
“Every 20 seconds a Mass is being celebrated somewhere in the world for a benefactor of Aid to the Church in Need.”
– Regina Lynch, Aid to the Church in Need’s Director of Projects
You can ask Aid to the Church in Need to arrange a number of different Masses to be said for your intentions.
For each Mass you request, we will send you a Mass card of your choice.
You can request an individual Mass for a suggested offering of between £5 and £10 per Mass.
If you would like Masses said on a regular basis, you may like to consider setting up a standing order.
A Triduum of Masses
A Triduum is a series of three Masses celebrated on your behalf. You can ask for a Triduum to be said to obtain special graces, to implore favours or to make particular petitions.
We suggest an offering of between £15 and £30.
A Novena of Masses
A Novena is a series of nine Masses celebrated on your behalf. You can ask for a Novena of Masses to obtain graces from the Holy Spirit for an intention particularly dear to your heart.
We suggest an offering of between £45 and £60.
A Gregorian Mass is a series of 30 Masses celebrated by a priest for 30 consecutive days for the soul of a departed relative or friend.
We will add the name of the deceased to Aid to the Church in Need's In Memoriam Book, which is kept in the Lady Chapel in our office.
We suggest an offering of at least £165 for a Gregorian Mass.
Aid to the Church in Need distributes Mass Offerings to bishops in more than 130 countries. The bishops pass on the Mass Offerings to the neediest of their priests.
Your Mass Offerings support parish and diocesan priests and priests in seminaries and contemplative orders who are most in need of help.
Your Mass Offerings are passed on in full to the priest celebrating the Mass.
We regret that we are unable to ask the celebrating priest to say the names of those for whom the Mass is celebrated. Instead, he will celebrate the Mass for the intentions of a benefactor of Aid to the Church in Need, and we trust that through your prayers and ours, almighty God in his infinite wisdom will know the intention of the Mass.
If you would like Aid to the Church in Need to remember your specific intentions, we are happy to do so when we pray the Angelus each day at noon. You can add names to our prayer list by visiting the Your Prayers page on this website.
Due to the large number of Mass Offerings we distribute to priests, we regret that we are unable to organise Masses on specific dates. Masses are usually said within 6 to 8 weeks of when you make your Mass Offering. Please bear this in mind if you wish a Mass to be said near a specific date.
The suggested Mass Offering rates are a guide only, except for the Gregorian Mass Offering, which is a fixed minimum rate.
