TANZANIA: New transport for the parish of Ebuyu

Category: Transport for priests and Sisters

Thanks to your knidness Fr Kaweza will now be able to buy a moped and 10 bicycles, so that he and his catechists will be spared many tiring journeys.

Apart from the parish church in Ebuyu in southern Tanzania, there are also three other ‘outstations‘ where Holy Mass is celebrated; these are each located about 5 or 6 miles apart, and the parish aditionally has 35 small village communities.

Given the distances, the catechists play an important part in parish life, since the priest himself cannot be everywhere at once, and the people themselves cannot walk every day to the parish church or to the various outstations. And so instead they meet in their own villages, under the direction of a catechist, to pray and learn about their faith.

Fr Anastas Kaweza, the parish priest, and the catechists who help him minister to the faithful have so far been doing all of these tiring journeys on foot.

The parishioners are very poor; they already live from hand to mouth and barely have enough to feed their own families, let alone give anything much in the way of financial support for the parish. But thanks to your kindness Fr Kaweza will now be able to buy a moped and 10 bicycles, so that he and his catechists will no longer have to cover their many long journeys on foot.
