For millions of Christians around the world, persecution, violence, discrimination and suffering are a way of life as they live out their faith.

As Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI said during his pontificate, “many Christians experience daily affronts and often live in fear because of their pursuit of truth, their faith in Christ Jesus and their heartfelt plea for respect for religious freedom. This situation is unacceptable since it represents an insult to God and to human dignity.”

Our profiles focus on the 30 countries where the threat to religious freedom is greatest.
