Motherwell ML1 5AL
ACN Scotland invites Catholic High Schools from all over Scotland to stand in solidarity with persecuted Chritians worldwide, by joining our 2017 rally.
Last year more than 1,000 students attended. Will YOU get your school involved this year?
The theme of the day is We Are One as we stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Christ who are persecuted for their faith. The day will include prayer, talks and action to awaken our consciences.
Each school will be asked to bring along two prayers with them on the day, one for Iraq and one for Syria.
Leading the day of prayer will be Bishop John Keenan of the Diocese of Paisley.
Bishop John has sent out a personal invitation to all secondary schools in Scotland. In his invitation he said: “The violence and oppression experienced by Christians in our world continues to this day.
“The situation in Syria has been one of devastation and, with Aleppo city centre now under the control of the Assad Government, it is possible to start counting the cost of war. “The city’s Christian community has fallen from 250,000 before war to 30,000 today.
“It is our duty to support persecuted Christians and, by attending ACN’s Annual Youth Rally, we can make a real show of solidarity.”
Bishop John will be joined be inspirational speaker and former comedian Fr Frankie Mulgrew.
Also in attendance will be Electropop Christian music group Ooberfuse, who will give their own personal testimonies and perform on the day.

Stand up for Faith and Freedom Events
At St Mirrin's Cathedral Paisley, ACN Scotland hosted a Mass - Stand up for Faith and Freedom celebrated by Bishop John Keenan with guest speakers including Archbishop Sebastian Shaw of Lahore, Pakistan and Sister Annie Demerjian from Aleppo in Syria.
All Paisley High Schools were represented at this Mass and event afterwards as they learned about the hardships faced by many Christians around the world and how ACN helps improve the lives for Christians throughout the region.
Archbishop Sebastian Shaw from the Archdiocese of Lahore in Pakistan spoke to Sancta Familia Media, and discussed the situation in for Christians in Pakistan.
Blog 2: The Way of the Cross
On the Friday evening of WYD I was to join Pope Francis with youth from around the world for an artisitic rendition of the Stations of the Cross. The theme of this Way of the Cross for WYD was The Path of Mercy. Click here to read the blog.
ACN Youth Rally
It was wonderful to witness the scenes at the first ACN Youth Rally which took place on Thursday at Carfin Lourdes Grotto, Motherwell. Supported by a personal message from Pope Francis.
ACN Scotland invited Catholic High Schools from all over Scotland to unite with persecuted Christians worldwide by urging young people to stand together in solidarity. This was the largest gathering of young Catholics we have ever held in Scotland with 1,200 young adults present!
The afternoon began with the noon Angelus, followed by a programme of speakers, praise and worship music and Adoration; with participation from Bishop John Keenan of Paisley, Humza Yousaf MSP and international Catholic speakers.
Among those addressing the crowd were Father Ambrose who provided case studies of life under Boko Haram, he said “Over 15,000 Christians in Northern Nigeria have been killed, and hundreds of thousands of children orphaned or displaced.”
Organised by Lorraine McMahon, ACN’s Head of Operations in Scotland, the event was a great success with over 30 Schools signing up to be ACN Solidarity Schools, to promote our work and fundraise for us.
Lorraine told the audience “The Scottish Youth Rally is an opportunity for the youth of this country to stand together in solidarity with the millions of suffering and persecuted Christians all around the world” and she issued a challenge to young people “What will you do individually and at school to provide for the Church in need?”
Read the Pope Francis’ message to all attending the event.

ACN Solidarity Prayer
Please join Aid to the Church in Need in prayer and ask God to protect the Christian people in the Middle East who are suffering discrimination and oppression because of their faith:
Heavenly Father, we ask that you sustain, comfort and heal the hearts of Christians in the Middle East who are living in fear of the Islamic State. We especially remember those in Iraq and Syria.
May we in Scotland be encouraged by their example and may we never take for granted the freedom we have to follow you.
Come Holy Spirit and fill the hearts of thy faithful and enkindle in them thy love and mercy.
Compassionate creator, please forgive those who persecute Christians, reach out to them with your grace and your love.
We ask all this through your Son, Jesus
